Let’s explore the essentialism versus existentialism debate here. Do you believe every being has an inherent purpose, or that we each have the freedom (and responsibility) to determine our own fate?
Jean Paul Sartre had said it all perfectly. I am not an expert on the thoughts of the great writer; with my very limited understanding, I still felt ‘uncomfortable’ regarding two points that Sartre seems to have made. This is the reason I am writing this blog as a way of self-expression and I am sure my readers would correct my mistakes wherever necessary.
First, I cannot accept that we are condemned to be free; rather it is a blessing.
Secondly, Sartre emphasized on the temporal precedence of existence over essence. I prefer to believe that existence and essence are simultaneous, like two sides of the same coin.
